BBQ fuel affects both how the barbecue runs and, in smoking applications, the flavour profile produced during the cook. Alfresco Outdoors & Heating carries charcoal, briquettes, smoking wood chips, wood chunks and hardwood pellets, so the first step is to match the fuel format to the barbecue or smoker being used.
For kettle and other charcoal barbecues, the current range includes Weber briquettes in 4kg and 10kg bags, Weber charcoal and Wattle & Flame Australian hardwood charcoal. Briquettes provide a uniform manufactured fuel shape that is useful when repeatable charcoal placement matters, while lump charcoal is a natural charcoal format with irregular pieces. Always follow the barbecue manufacturer's lighting and ventilation instructions rather than mixing fuels or ignition methods that are not recommended for the appliance.
Smoking wood is available as chips and chunks in species including apple, cherry, pecan, hickory and mesquite. Chips are smaller pieces that are commonly used when a shorter burst of smoke is required, while larger chunks remain in the fire longer and are useful for extended smoking in compatible charcoal setups. Weber hardwood pellets are also available in GrillMaster Blend, hickory, mesquite, apple and cherry varieties for pellet barbecues and smokers designed to feed pellets automatically.
Do not use pellet fuel in a charcoal barbecue unless the manufacturer specifically supports it, and do not assume every smoking wood format suits every smoker. Check the appliance manual and product page before purchase.
